Nuclear liability taskforce meeting

Nuclear Liability Taskforce Meeting took place on 30 September 2013 at Insurance Europe’s offices in Brussels.

Insurance Europe, the European insurance and reinsurance federation, represents insurance and reinsurance undertakings that account for around 95% of total European premium income through its 34 members.

Among the participants of the meeting there were general managers of European insurance pools’, heads of European Insurance Associations, as well as insurance experts.

In connection with events at Fukushima NPP, the European Commission is currently assessing to what extent the situation with potential victims of a nuclear accident in Europe could be improved, within the limits of EU competence. The participants of the Meeting discussed the views of all relevant stakeholders on the need for common rules at EU level on Insurance and compensation for nuclear accidents in the EU and the necessity of compulsory nuclear liability insurance at EU level.

A Position Paper (Insurance Europe Key Messages on Nuclear Liability Insurance) was a result of the Meeting.
