Nuclear Oversight INPO Training

The Russian Association of Nuclear Insurers (RANI) hosted a Nuclear Oversight Training Seminar the week of May 7-11, 2012 in their offices in Moscow, Russia.  Attendees consisted of managers and/or technical experts from RANI, Rostekhnadzor, State Corporation Rosatom, JSC Concern Rosenergoatom and Nuclear Risk Insurers LTD (UK). 

The seminar was developed and implemented by representatives of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) and INPO International from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Dave Adams and Tom Tessmer. The seminar was attended by a well-known, in professional community, an expert on the organization and supervision  conduction over the operation of nuclear power plants - Technical Director of the Atlanta Center of WANO (WANO - Atlanta Center), Tim Martin.
  The two main thrusts of the program covered oversight and leadership of nuclear safety and presenting and practicing the specific skill sets required of a successful evaluator.  Specifically, the content and sequence consisted of the following:

  • Nuclear Oversight and Safety
  • Interviewing and Writing Techniques
  • Performing Analysis
  • How to Conduct Observations and Observation Exercise
  • Leadership
  • How to Develop an Issue and Issue Development Exercise
  • Report Writing Exercise
  • Industry Shaping Events and Managing for Excellent Performance

The seminar content and presentations were very well received by RANI management and the participants. During the seminar, and through the practical exchange of experience in organizing and conducting technical supervision and inspection of survey on the nuclear facilities in Russia and other countries, there was a review of general nuclear security issues of U.S. and Russian  nuclear accidents at nuclear power plants around the world  

At the end of the seminar every participant received the Nuclear Oversight Training certificate.
