The 4th Nuclear Engineers’ Seminar in China

The 4th Nuclear Engineers’ Seminar took place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, 08 – 14 March, 2015. The Seminar united more than 30 technical specialists of the national nuclear insurance pools: USA (ANI), Canada (NIAC), UK (NRI), France (Assuratome), Belgium (SYBAN), Netherlands (NHT), Germany (DKVG), Czech Republic (CNIP), Scandinavia (NNI), Switzerland (Swiss Re), Ukraine (UNIP), Russia (RANI), Korea (KAEIP), China (CReC), Taiwan (NEIP), Japan (JAEIP).

The attendees from RANI were:

  • Pavel Rudenskiy, General Manager
  • Sergey Babenko, Technical Director
  • Vladimir Vashchilo, Deputy Technical Director
  • Anatoliy Nikitin, Deputy Technical Director

During the Seminar:

  • Engineering Sub-Ñommittee meeting was held, headed by Mr.Niek Bos (Netherlands)
  • Technical experts participated in one day visit to The Sanmen Nuclear Power Station under construction (the owner of NPP is China National Nuclear Corporation – CNNC, operator – Sanmen Nuclear Power Company LTD). It is situated in Sanmen County, Zhejiang Province in China. Sanmen NPP will be the first implementation of the AP1000 pressurized water reactor (PWR), thermal capacity of 3400 MW, electrical capacity of 1250 MW. Unit 1 has a high degree of readiness for the start of commissioning operations.
  • For two days the attendees discussed current issues of National Pools’ activity with regard to international insurance inspections, working out and agreement of basic guidelines to assess insurance risks of nuclear facilities, operation process and decommissioning process of commercial NPPs from the point of view of “Nuclear safety. Operation safety level. Liability.”, “Fire Protection”, “Machinery breakdown”, “Safety culture”.

All events, reports and presentations provided during the Seminar were of great importance for the participants. The information presented by Asian pools - Japanese, Korean, Taiwan, and Chinese, who hosted the Seminar, was of particular interest. As it was mentioned at the Seminar these countries make active use of nuclear energy and develop it, their National nuclear pools succeeded in solving problems connected with the process of development.

The speech of Mr.P. Rudenskiy, General Manager of RANI, on providing more underwriting information in survey reports caused hot discussion among the engineers. As a result it was decided to form a special working group on this issue.

The 4-th Nuclear Engineers’ Seminar once again revealed its positive role for further development of business relations, the process of insurance risk assessments, successful cooperation of technical specialists all over the world.

Summing up the results of the Seminar the attendees agreed that such events contribute to knowledge and experience exchange within international business community of Nuclear Pools’ engineers, and outline main tendencies for further development of Nuclear Industry.
